Years ago I heard two stories that have and are having a profound effect on my life. Both are related to training and both are pictures of how limiting beliefs can stop us of achieving greatness. It is said that when an elephant is young it is tied to a huge post; one much bigger than necessary to keep the animal from breaking free. As the elephant tries and tries to break free day after day it finally gives up. The elephant is conditioned to believe it cannot escape. As it grows, the post it is tied to becomes no match for the elephant's mighty strength, however because of its conditioning it doesn't even try to break free. The second story was told by Zig Ziglar. I heard it years ago, so Zig, don't take offense if I don't tell it exactly right. In an experiment, fleas were placed in a jar with cellophane placed over its mouth. An air supply was provided. When first placed in the jar, the fleas jump and jumped hitting the cellophane at the mouth of the jar. They tried and tried until one day they no longer jumped that high. I guess they were getting tired of hitting there heads against the cellophane! Do fleas have heads? Eventually the cellophane was taken away and not one of the fleas tried to escape. Why? They gave up because they were conditioned to believe that they could not get out. We also, since our birth, were conditioned and this conditioning formed beliefs within us. And many of these beliefs are LIMITING! Let's say you came from a family with below average income. You saw your father and mother struggle from pay check to pay check to make ends meet. Over time you may have formed a belief that everyone in your family has to live this way because no one in your family tree ever became rich. Then one day you had a dream of having your own network marketing company and becoming a millionaire. The dream is real and wonderful, but for some reason you go from program to program failing time and time again. You blame everyone and everything. However, the problem may be your limiting beliefs. You may say, I believe I can be a millionaire! But inwardly, deep down, there is the hidden limiting belief that says you can't. What we want to believe and our limiting beliefs cannot dwell together. They create conflict. In order for a new belief to take hold, we must dig up the limiting belief, feel its pain and let go of it! One way to do this is to write it out on a piece of paper. Make sure you feel the pain of the limiting belief that is holding you back. Then write out the new belief on a separate piece of paper; one that empowers and excites you...then burn the paper with the old limiting belief. Get rid of it. Even if you have to put it through the shredder! Take the new belief and read it aloud daily. Feel the excitement and pleasure it brings you. The key word is to feel it. These rich feelings will draw the things you desire into your life, now that the conflict is gone. Once we recognize and deal with our limiting beliefs we can form new ones that will help bring the things we truly want into our lives. I will give you one of my famous Bible stories... There was a woman, who according to the Bible, had an issue of blood for 38 years. She went from doctor to doctor and not one could cure her of her hemorrhaging. She had a belief that only doctors could help her. Well, eventually she spent all she had to no avail. She was desperate and helpless. One day she heard about a man named Jesus who was healing all manner of sicknesses. She abandoned her old limiting belief that only doctors could save her and formed a new one, "If only I could touch the hem of His garment I will be healed." The crowds were pressing Jesus, but that did not deter this woman's acting according to her new belief. She crawled on the ground until she reached Jesus and touched His garment. At once she was healed and at the same time Jesus perceived power had gone out from Him. When Jesus perceived the power released from Him, He asked, "Who touched Me?" The disciples basically said, "Are you nuts; the crowds are pressing against you!" But Jesus replied, "No, someone touched me." At once the woman rose up and admitted that she was the one who touched him. Jesus said to her, "Your faith has made you well." Her new belief brought her the healing she craved. Friend, if something is stopping you from achieving your dreams, you can be sure that there is a limiting belief lurking in the depths of your being that is keeping you from reaching those dreams. Maybe it's been there for 38 years like the hemorrhaging woman. To dig it out you may need some coaching. If you are in a good program, your sponsor should be able to help you through the use of questions. If not, contact me and let's see what we can do to expose those limiting beliefs and deal with them so you can attract to the things you truly want in your life. Michael Puskas is dedicated to success and assisting others achieve their dreams. He believes that through the proper use of wealth all involved can be greatly benefited. Family Tree - Limiting Beliefs - The Dream Killers
Family Tree - The American Melting Pot Myth
Most myths have some element of truth in them. The 'melting pot' that media of all sorts (which includes our propaganda in law and education) tell us became America, is another of the half-truths or superficial observations which deserves a little study if we are to accept the deeper potential meaning in it. John Hope Franklin of Duke University is a respected Black scholar who says some powerful words after pointing out the kind of thing that media managers or manipulators galore have said about the open-minded American with no reason to bring prejudices to this new and exciting land of opportunity. I would point out that it was not so new and historians like himself have participated in a cover-up but let us see what this man has to say about the 'melting pot'. People do not generally like to find out that they have 'bastards' in their family tree and the woodpiles of America created a lot of 'bastards'. My father used to tell us about the Virginia legislature and legislation proposed that would make anyone with any black blood not able to sit and participate in it. This was the early 1950s not the 1850s. One legislator did the research that most Americans will not even do about their own family. He did not get more than half way through exposing every member of the legislature for their mulatto blood when the others were all in an uproar and clamoring that he must b silenced. "This was one of the earliest expressions of the notion that the process of Americanization involved the creation of an entirely new mode of life that would replace the ethnic backgrounds of those who were a part of the process. It contained some imprecisions and inaccuracies that would, in time, became {become?} a part of the lore or myth of the vaunted melting pot and would grossly misrepresent the crucial factor of ethnicity in American life. It ignored the tenacity with which the Pennsylvania Dutch held onto their language, religion, and way of life. It over-looked the way in which the Swedes of New Jersey remained Swedes and the manner in which the French Huguenots of New York and Charleston held onto their own past as though it was the source of all light and life. It described a process that in a distant day would gag at the notion that Irish Catholics could be assimilated on the broad lap of Alma Mater or that Asians could be seated on the basis of equality at the table of the Great American Feast." (8) Needless to say he also addresses the matter of black emancipation and those who were 'already in the country' though I do not think he was referring to the blacks who were here long before Columbus. In fact there was no race that had not been coming to America since before the time of Christ. Genetics is indeed a powerful tool used in court to free innocent victims of our justice system but so far our history is still allowing lies to victimize our cultural perspectives or myths. It is important that we act as if there is no race except the human race. Family Tree - Discover How Breast Cancer Awareness Can Benefit You
You have undoubted run across many of the breast cancer awareness days and sessions that appear around the country sporadically. These are usually put on by a local group, a church, or sponsored by the American Cancer Society to promote breast cancer awareness in the community. You might be wondering why your breast cancer awareness level should be raised and what benefit that represents for you, but all you need to do is look at the statistics about the reported cases of breast cancer. The reported cases of breast cancer has been rising steadily year after year, and for the coming year, the American Cancer Society estimates that there will be more than 200,000 diagnosed cases. Even scarier is that they also estimate that more than 40,000 of those cases of breast cancer will die from it. Here is an even scarier fact for you -- did you know that breast cancer is not limited to women? Yes it is true. The American Cancer Society estimates that there will be about 1600 cases of breast cancer in MEN this year, and that about 400 of them will die. So are you starting to see where breast cancer awareness is starting to be important to you and your health? With statistics like this, it is no wonder that they want to promote breast cancer awareness as much as possible. Many people do not take this disease seriously, even despite these statistics. Although it is difficult to believe, there are many people who have not had a checkup or medical exam in the past 4, 5, or 10 years or more. How can you possibly take your health seriously if you do not have regular checkups and exams from your doctor or medical professional? One way is of course to raise your breast cancer awareness level since that is a disease where there is currently not a known cure. Your best option for fighting breast cancer is to get early detection and early diagnosis. When breast cancer is detected early, your chances of being able to cope with it, to fight it, and via treatments like chemo, there are many documented cases of people who have beat it. But if it had not been detected and diagnosed early, those would almost certainly be different stories with radically different outcomes. What about those people who have not had a medical examination in the past 4 or 5 years? If they have developed breast cancer in that timeframe, it will certainly not be considered an early diagnosis and could even mean another fatality from breast cancer. You need to become knowledgeable about the typical symptoms of breast cancer, and if you detect any of those symptoms at home, you should schedule a checkup with your doctor as soon as possible. For women of ages 18 to about 40, you should plan to schedule a checkup with your doctor once about every 2-3 years. For women over 40, that checkup should be not less than annually. Although breast cancer has not conclusively been determined to be hereditary, you might want to consider having checkups even more often is there is a history of cancer in your family tree. Keeping these statistics in mind, your level of breast cancer awareness should be raised where these regular checkups should be at the forefront of your mind. Raise your breast cancer awareness levels and get those checkups. Be aware of the symptoms and if you see any of them, be sure to get an exam soon. Remember, the best chances for beating breast cancer are early detection and early diagnosis. Jon is a prolific writer with expertise in a number of areas. Family Tree - The Generation Gap: Passing Sound Financial Practices Down the Family Tree
In our world of "keeping up with the joneses", it's an everyday struggle to resist buying the latest, greatest toy to wow our neighbors with. But how did we come to be this way? If you're a Baby Boomer, your parents probably weren't like this. They were too busy trying to feed, clothe, and provide shelter for their families; everything else was gravy. But in today's world of borrowing, credit and instant gratification, seemingly anything we want, we can have. We pay for it for years, and thanks to interest rates, we end up paying a lot more than actual sticker price. But hey, we have it now, right? Thing is, if we step back and think about it, we can learn a lot about finances from our parents. We can also pass that info on'and then some'to our kids, creating a lineage equipped with sound, smart financial knowledge. Teach them about today's money Spending isn't like it used to be. Through the prevalence of checks, credit cards and debit cards, cash is a rarity in today's world. But it's important that our kids understand where money comes from and how it's used. When you plop down the plastic for a purchase, let your kids know that the money is either coming directly from your bank account, or a bill will arrive in the mail which you will soon have to pay. When at the ATM, tell them that cash isn't magically coming out of the box. It was put there from your work, and its money you earned. As they grow older, instill more sophisticated lessons into their lives. Tell them about late fees, interest and the importance of saving. The early you start teaching your kids about finances, the better off they'll be. College quality counts Studies show that four-year undergraduate degrees are now the norm in the working world, and in order to stand out, a graduate degree is necessary. On average, the income of someone with a master's degree was nearly $10,000 greater than that of a person with a bachelor's degree. Also, the higher rated the college your child attends, the more they will make. Start saving now for your child's education, and be prepared to shell out extra over the long run if need be. It's proven that the amount they will make after college will easily outpace the extra cost incurred by attending a big-name school. Save, Save, Save Don't spend, spend, spend. Advertising today would have you believe that everything on the market is an absolute must have for you and your family. Credit card companies are approving younger and younger kids every day. Resist the urge to splurge. Make saving a priority in your family, and introduce kids to the concept as early as you can. If your child requests a big ticket item, put them on an allowance and encourage them to save for it. Tell them that if they save an agreed-upon amount within a certain time frame, you'll match it (a nice little introduction to the world of the 401(k)). Help them as adults Studies show that most grown, independent children ages 25 to 34 receive over $14,000 from their parents. No, these aren't slacker kids still living at home. These are independent, educated adults who earn a decent income, but who might need a little help getting started in the world. Giving now can help your kids save on estate tax when you're gone, and will also have more of an immediate impact for them and more satisfaction for you. The IRS will allow a gift of up to $11,000 per year for each child without incurring a gift tax, and couples are allowed $22,000. When you do give a sizeable gift to an adult child, make sure you set the ground rules on it before the money exchanges hands. Let them know that the money is to be specifically used for something like a down payment on a home, not for a new sports car. You want your cash gift to help your child become independent, not condition them to expect parental gifts for frivolous purchases. Most importantly, be a role model to your children when it comes to finances. Just like everything else, you can preach until you're blue in the face, but if they notice you making unsound financial decisions, the more likely they are to do the same. Family Tree - 5 Quick Tips on Family Tree Research or How to Find Your Ancestors
Family tree research can be an exciting enterprise - you may find long-lost relatives, discover that your ancestors were involved in historic events, or even uncover a completely new branch of your family tree. However, researching genealogy can be a time-consuming and difficult task, and success is by no means guaranteed. We have gathered a few tips and sources for making your family tree search more effective and successful. 5) The first thing you need to do is to talk to your family - parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, anyone who is willing to share their history with you. Ask where and when they were born, what their parents' names and marriage dates/locations were, what other living relatives they have and who the oldest ones are. Ideally, bring a tape recorder and a notepad to avoid forgetting important names or dates. 4) Once you have the basic picture, the detective work begins. The first place to start is census records, which will tell you exactly when and where your family lived. Once you have that information, you can go on to other genealogy records such as obituary notices, marriage records, land records, tax records, and more. Such research is easily possible online, for instance at http://www.instantfamilytreesearch.com 3) Get birth certificates, death certificates, and marriage licenses and certificates. These most always show parents and sometimes other valuable information including where the parents were both born, their occupations, etc. Marriage certificates show ages, parents, witnesses and other various pieces information including in some cases where the bride, groom, and parents were born and their occupations, etc. Death certificates show death dates, birth dates, parents, who reported the death, where the deceased person was residing and much more info including causes of death, etc. 2) Further genealogy information sources include for instance parish records (Bishop's transcripts, etc.), cemetery records, newspapers (obituaries and births), immigration records (into a country), emigration records (exiting a country), ships passenger lists, school records, naturalization records, military records, social security records, court records, official documents (county records), business filings, wills, deeds, hospital records, criminal records, bankruptcy records, and more. 1) If you find yourself at a dead end while looking for a particular ancestor, it is often advisable to try an alternate approach. One of the basic rules of genealogy research is to start with yourself and work backwards, in different directions. Try searching for other children or grandchildren of the ancestor independently, and if you are successful, working backwards in time from there. If you really struggle and aren't making progress, you may want to consider one of the large subscription-based record research sites such as http://www.findapersonservice.com. Family Tree - Genealogy -- How to Track Down Your Family History
Beginning your family history or genealogy can be an overwhelming task if you don't know where to begin. Expert genealogists all agree that the place to start is with your own personal information. After all, it is the family history of your children and grandchildren. Why not start it for them? Once you have written down your full name, using the maiden name for a married woman, you need to fill in what is called your vital statistics. This is your birth date and place and the date and location of your marriage, if married. You may also want to write the date and location of a baptism or christening. Next, write down everything you know about your parents. If you are the "trunk" these are the next "branches" on your family tree. Again fill in all of the vital statistics you know about these close relatives. From there you can work your way up the tree to grandparents and great grandparents, including death dates and burial places for those who have passed on. Be sure to ask living family members all they remember about their parents and grandparents. These are excellent leads to finding verification of the spoken information you obtain. Verification of family history is important. Memories fade and facts can get confounded. The city and town courthouses will contain records, as well as national census databases. Birth, marriage, and death certificates contain usually, but not always, the most accurate information for verification. Many of these records are available online through subscription services and the volunteer efforts of many genealogical societies. This is the beginning of a legacy you can leave your children. You can help them know all about their ancestors and understand just where they came from. There are many skills associated with the research such as note taking, verifying, record finding, using the U.S. Census and Archives. The detailed procedures that will help you find those long lost ancestors are contained in the pages of the electronic manual. http://www.infostormpublishing.com/ebooks/?bk=27 Article Source:http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Kent_Sayre |
Family Tree - Kitty Tree
When my son was just a toddler, he was fascinated with the Christmas tree. He wanted to touch the ornaments and wanted to take them off the tree and replace them. My solution to this dilemma was to purchase a small tree that was meant just for him. We made paper and felt and wooden ornaments and other unbreakable decorations for his tree. He was content and left the "family tree" alone. He played with his tree for hours at a time. Household pets are also attracted to Christmas trees and decorations, especially cats. Anything hanging down from the tree is an open invitation for them to swat or pull. Tinsel, I'm told, is not healthy for pets, and yet the sparkles are so fascinating to them. I wondered if creating a tree just for the family cat might be a good idea, and it proved to be just that. The kitty's tree is a small one, even smaller than the one I got for my son when he was young. The tree stands only about eighteen inches high. On our playtime tree, I placed cat toys, cheap, unbreakable ornaments, and bells. Ribbons and yarn hang down, inviting our cat to pull and swat at them. I placed the cat's tree in a large, shallow box, also decorated for Christmas, so at least it blends in with our other holiday decor. Some of the ornaments are wired to the tree. Others are easily swatted down from the tree limbs, so the cat can play with them. To keep the cat's attention directed at her tree, and not the family tree, some of the ornaments and toys are stuffed with catnip. Our precious cat can knock her Christmas tree over. She can swat the whole tree or she can swat at individual ornaments. She can pull yarn from the tree and drag it all over the house. (We just replace the yarn later, so she can start all over again.) Of course, our cat is still fascinated with the family Christmas tree, especially when the lights are lit. But she knows that if she tries swatting at that tree, she will hear that sound that she hates most - the spray bottle filled with water. We never actually have to spray her anymore. Just the sound of that bottle is enough to remind her that the family tree is just something she can admire from afar. Our cat is an important part of our family, and she deserves to enjoy the holiday just as much as we do. She loves having her very own tree. We love knowing that big Christmas tree will stand tall for the entire season. The cat no longer tries to knock it down. Family Tree - Military Records: The Key to Your Family Tree?
Were your ancestors war heroes? Believe it or not, vital clues to your family's history just might be hiding away in military archives - and finding them can be easier than you think. Even if you're not sure whether or not any of your ancestors ever served in the military, it can pay to do some digging. The payoff can be huge. First some background about what you're looking for and why. Fires in 1800 and 1814 destroyed the records of the American Army and Navy servicemen that were held at the War Department. In 1894, an effort was made to restore these records from many different sources via abstracts, and individual packets of records were created for each serviceman. This packet of records was known as a Compiled Service Record, and it contained information including rank, military unit, date of admission into service, and discharge, or death. It also may contain other information, such as age, place of birth, and place of residence on enlistment. Indices to Compiled Military Service Records In the U.S., the indexed Compiled Military Service Records to many wars are available at the National Archives. They include the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, various Indian wars, and the Civil War. Most of the indices have been microfilmed. If you do find your ancestor's Compiled Service Record, it can mean that you gain access to a lot of other information! For example, if you learn that your ancestor served in the Revolutionary War, the pension file indices will show whether he or his heirs have a pension file. If they did, you'll have access to a lot of information about the family. Here's a link to a site documents the Lybarger and Ball families of Bedford and Erie counties, Pennsylvania, and mentions other families as well: http://www.heritagepathways.com/pension/pension.htm. As you can see, if you're lucky enough to find your ancestors' pension files, you'll gain an accurate picture of what happened to them during their years of service, so these are definitely files worth seeking. But don't stop there - go ahead and try to access the complete pension files. Why? Because when war veterans and their widows applied for pensions after various wars, including the Revolutionary War and the Civil War, they had to prove the births, marriages and deaths of their immediate family so they could receive the funds. Often, the only proof they had of these events were pages from family Bibles. So the pages were ripped out and submitted. These pages will still be in the files!
